No, switching doesn’t always happen without warning. Switching can feel sudden, but for many systems there are early indicators.
These may include:
- Head pressure
- Feeling pulled back or sideways
- Language or tone shifting
- Emotions that don’t match the moment
- Dizziness
- Body sensations
- Feeling not like “yourself”
Some systems have varying degrees of control over the ability to switch, as well. These systems can still experience sudden switches but may be able to influence, guide, invite, delay, or control switching to some extent.
This page is part of the Switching and State Changes in DID section of the CommuniDID site, which explains what switching is, why switching patterns change over time, and why increased awareness or switching does not necessarily mean things are getting worse.
