I am the Host part in my system (which has a P-DID presentation), and I am getting real tired and drained of being in front for almost everything. But simultaneously, I am scared of letting someone else take the reins and what consequences that could have for my life. However, I wouldn’t want to suddenly lose control when I eventually get too burned out. What are some strategies for feeling more comfortable with other parts taking on daily life/Host tasks, in a more gradual way?
First of all, I want to commend you. You’ve recognized that the current situation isn’t sustainable, and instead of waiting until you’re completely burned out, you’re thinking about how your system could prepare for this gradually. That’s important. You want to do what is best, but understandably you are hesitant about what could happen if you give the wheel to another system member. A second, perhaps unrecognized aspect of this is that your thoughtful approach to this minimizes the likelihood of a spectacular failure or of whoever agrees to relieve you feeling like they were set up to fail.
I believe your question actually contains the kernel of the answer: “taking on daily life/Host tasks in a more gradual way.” The problem is a familiar one in life. For instance, many jobs require that you have experience, but how can you get experience if you can’t get a job without it? In this case, in order to gain confidence in your system members’ abilities to handle the hosting or daily tasks, they need to have experience doing it. So the question becomes: how can you help them to gain that experience in the least risky way possible? Of course this can be easier or more difficult depending upon how your system cooperates and communicates. I’m going to assume that you have some of both since you haven’t mentioned those as additional challenges….
