Some people with DID notice that medications work for a while and then seem to stop, or that the effects vary from day to day. You might experience side effects that come and go, or a medication that helps one symptom but worsens another. This can be frightening and confusing.

These shifts do not necessarily mean the medication has failed. They can sometimes reflect changes in nervous system state, stress level, or internal system dynamics.

In some systems, different parts may also have different feelings about taking medication. For example, one part may want the medication and take it consistently, while another part may resist or avoid it. These kinds of internal differences can sometimes contribute to inconsistent medication use or effects.

This page is part of the Somatic and Body-Based Symptoms in DID section of the CommuniDID site, which explains why dissociation can affect the body, including pain, sensory changes, or neurological-like symptoms, even when medical tests are normal.
