You may feel like a different person at different times if you are being influenced by or blended with another part who is close to the front. When another part is nearby and experiencing strong emotions, thoughts, memories, or urges, you may begin to experience them as well. Depending on how strongly blended you are, those emotions or thoughts may feel more or less “yours.”
You may also feel like a different person because dissociation can disrupt your sense of continuity over time. Different states within the nervous system may allow different emotions, memories, abilities, perspectives, or parts of the system to become more accessible. For example, one day you may feel outgoing, confident, and energetic, while another day you may feel emotionally shut down, fearful, or unlike yourself. These shifts can feel confusing, especially when you expect your identity, emotions, and reactions to remain consistent all the time.
Feeling different at different times does not automatically mean you are “making it up” or being dramatic. In dissociative systems, these shifts may reflect changing states of awareness, access, and influence within the system.
