Co-consciousness is when more than one part is aware at the same time. For instance, you might be fronting, but you might sense another insider’s feelings, hear their thoughts alongside your own, or notice yourself doing something while another part influences it. Co-consciousness can feel confusing when you first experience it, but it is a common experience in DID. As parts begin communicating and cooperating more, some systems learn to intentionally remain co-conscious so that different parts can share awareness or contribute strengths when they are needed.
This page is part of the What Is Dissociation? section of the CommuniDID site, which explains how dissociation works and why it develops.
