There is a medication currently being studied for treating dissociation, particularly depersonalization and derealization. It is called naltrexone, a medication commonly used to treat substance use disorders. Some small studies suggest it may help reduce symptoms of depersonalization and derealization. It has not been studied specifically as a treatment for DID. While it may not address the broader patterns involved in DID, it may reduce depersonalization and derealization experiences that often occur alongside it. If you are interested in medication options, talk with a psychiatrist who understands dissociation.
This page is part of the What Is Dissociation? section of the CommuniDID site, which explains how dissociation works and why it develops.
