Yes, you can have DID or OSDD without hearing voices. Although hearing voices is actually a more common experience with DID and OSDD than it is with schizophrenia, it is not a requirement for diagnosis. Sometimes people will be able to communicate verbally with parts of their system as healing progresses but, again, even if you never do, you can still have OSDD or DID. Additionally, a lot of communication within systems is nonverbal and you may be experiencing this without even being aware of it. If you are wondering about DID or OSDD but not experiencing voices, it could be because parts in your system are afraid to speak up at this time, not that they are incapable of it.

This page is part of the Could I Really Have DID, or Am I Imagining It? section of the CommuniDID site, which explains why recovery can feel slow, confusing, or discouraging and why experiences like grief, exhaustion, and resistance are common during the healing process.
