What do I do about an alter who actively ignores me? I don’t mean that I’m not able to reach them at all — I mean that they know my presence and that I want/need to talk to them about something important, but are purposely not responding.
This is a tough question because it’s a real issue for you. As you said, you need to talk to them about something important. At the same time, I’m imagining what they might write to me: “What do I do about an alter who will not leave me alone? I have made it clear I’m not interested in responding but they just will not stop!” What I’m getting at is that there are two parties in this situation, each with their own perspective. Unfortunately, because the other alter isn’t communicating, you don’t know why or what you might be able to do to change that.
But before we go further into this, there is a question which should be answered: are you looking for communication in only one form? For instance, if you are talking to them internally, are you expecting to get a response through internal verbal communication? Although I wouldn’t say this is likely to be the most common issue, it is possible that the part you believe to be ignoring you has responded, but in a different way. For instance, some parts communicate through bodily sensations or images. I would invite them to respond in other ways, including some form of written communication such as in an app or a system notebook or a whiteboard. One other thing to explore is whether you could have the exchange of communication you need with the help of a third alter who can act as the go-between for the two of you.
Assuming it’s not an inability to communicate, then it gets more complicated….
