Many people who are questioning DID or OSDD worry that they may have somehow convinced themselves they have a dissociative disorder. This can be a very uncomfortable place to be because it leaves you unable to trust your experiences or yourself.

The very nature of DID can lead to cycles of doubt followed by cycles of believing you have DID due to the effects of dissociative amnesia. It makes sense that you might question yourself during the times when DID seems less believable. Repeatedly questioning whether you unconsciously made up or convinced yourself of something is also extremely common in dissociative disorders. Many people with DID or OSDD experience intense self-doubt, minimization, denial, or fear that they are “making it all up.”
By keeping a log of your unusual experiences, you may be able to detect patterns over time. If you have a trusted person, you can involve them for a less biased point of view. There is no need to force a conclusion quickly. Give yourself time to gather enough evidence to make a conclusion you can trust.
