Work exhausts you more than it seems to exhaust other people because you are likely managing ongoing invisible tasks common to dissociative systems. These tasks can require a great deal of energy. Other people may not have these same demands and can focus more of their energy on work itself.
For example, your system is likely managing switching, internal conflict about how to act or respond, emotional regulation, memory gaps, or monitoring for threats. You may be masking your symptoms and trying to make sure your system goes unnoticed.
You may be using a great deal of energy just to stay functional, grounded, and emotionally regulated.
This page is part of the DID and Work section of the CommuniDID site, which explains how switching, internal disagreement, and variable capacity influence work life and explores options for disclosure, accommodations, and navigating workplace challenges safely.
