Sometimes parts stay hidden because they are not clear about where they are or whether the system is a safe place to be. They may not feel safe being known or acknowledged. In some cases, they may be avoiding conflict with other parts of the system or the outside world.

In other cases, they may not be specifically attempting to hide. Their role may be to observe rather than participate directly. They may also hold experiences, memories, or emotions that they do not want to overwhelm others in the system.

Sometimes, parts are not yet able to communicate well enough to make their presence known. Others may remain hidden until the system has enough stability for them to emerge safely.

This page is part of the Understanding Parts and Internal Roles section of the CommuniDID site, which explains why these roles develop and how they function within a dissociative system.
