Some days dissociation may feel obvious. Other days, it may seem to have disappeared. It’s understandable to wonder whether this means you really have DID.

Dissociative symptoms often increase when stress increases. When stress decreases, symptoms often become less intense, less frequent, or less noticeable.

Some days simply require more participation from your system than others. When fewer demands are present, dissociation may not stand out as much.

As you become more familiar with DID, you may also begin noticing signs you did not recognize before. At other times, dissociation itself can limit awareness of what is happening, which may lead you to question the diagnosis.

This page is part of the Could I Really Have DID, or Am I Imagining It? section of the CommuniDID site, which explains why recovery can feel slow, confusing, or discouraging and why experiences like grief, exhaustion, and resistance are common during the healing process.
