It is not surprising for a person with DID or OSDD to notice their symptoms only sometimes. Dissociation can hide some symptoms. Think, for example, of times when you’ve realized after the fact that you lost time, perhaps only because you had less gas in your tank than expected.
There may be parts in your system who do not want you to be aware of the symptoms and may disrupt your awareness of them at times.
Symptom frequency and severity can vary, as well. During calm times or periods of reduced stress, you may experience fewer or milder symptoms. Because the symptoms may be less frequent or intense, you may not notice as many of them.
This page is part of the Could I Really Have DID, or Am I Imagining It? section of the CommuniDID site, which explains why recovery can feel slow, confusing, or discouraging and why experiences like grief, exhaustion, and resistance are common during the healing process.
