Being able to influence or delay switching does not mean that your DID is fake. How do you explain the times when you switch without intending or trying to?

Many people with DID or OSDD can sometimes have some control over switching. This becomes more likely with increased awareness, communication, and cooperation among system members.

Your ability to somewhat influence or control switching may reflect that there are some alters you are able to communicate or negotiate with. This is a positive sign.

You may be able to influence switching in some situations but not others, depending on stress, triggers, or system needs.

This page is part of the Could I Really Have DID, or Am I Imagining It? section of the CommuniDID site, which explains why recovery can feel slow, confusing, or discouraging and why experiences like grief, exhaustion, and resistance are common during the healing process.
