If an alter’s behavior feels confusing or harmful, try this: think of two or three other neutral or positive explanations. Maybe they are trying to protect you, avoid shame, or repeat something that once helped keep you safe. Maybe they are scared and this is how they show it.
You do not need to believe these alternative explanations—just allow yourself to consider them.
This small shift can begin to soften how you see that part. When tension decreases even slightly, communication with that alter may become easier.
